E-Scooter Display Not Turning On or Showing Error: How to Fix

Why did your e-scooter display stop working?

The display is the heart of communication between you and your e-scooter. It shows speed, battery level, distance — everything you need to ride safely, especially in Maringá where Municipal Law nº 11.981/2025 requires a speed indicator as mandatory safety equipment.

When the display won't turn on or starts flickering, it's rarely an unfixable defect. In most cases, it's simple connection problems, a drained battery, or wet contacts. Here we show you 6 steps to diagnose and fix it.

Step 1: Check your e-scooter battery

A display won't work if the scooter has no power. First, charge your e-scooter completely.

  • Charging time: between 3 to 6 hours (standard battery)
  • Let it charge for at least 4 hours before testing again
  • If the charger LED flickers or won't turn on, it could be a battery problem — skip to Step 5

After charging, turn on the scooter and see if the display lights up. If yes, the problem was low battery.

Step 2: Turn off and on again (basic reset)

Sometimes the display freezes and a simple restart fixes it. Find the power button and follow the procedure below:

  • Turn off the scooter completely (press and hold for 3 seconds)
  • Wait 10 seconds without doing anything
  • Turn on again with a single click on the power button
  • Wait 5 seconds for the display to fully load

If the display turns on and works normally, you're done. If not, continue to the next step.

Step 3: Inspect the connectors (very common cause)

Loose or dirty connectors are the biggest culprits for non-functioning displays. Check carefully:

  • Display connector to controller: usually under the deck or near the steering column — pull out and snap back in firmly
  • Battery connectors: make sure they're fully seated in the controller
  • Corrosion or dirt: if the pins are green or black, clean with a dry cloth or electrical contact cleaner

After cleaning and tightening, turn on again. Many displays start working at this step.

Step 4: Rule out water or moisture damage

E-scooters are not waterproof. Rain, puddles, or improper washing damage the display and connectors.

  • If the scooter got wet, turn it off immediately and let it dry for 24 hours in a ventilated area
  • Don't try to turn it on while there's visible moisture
  • If the display shows internal condensation, there's a risk of short circuit — take it to a service center

Protect your scooter from rain in Maringá: use a cover or store it in a sheltered location during rainy days.

Step 5: Test the battery and controller

If the display still won't work even after charging the battery and cleaning connectors, the problem may be in the battery or controller (the main circuit board).

  • Try to start the motor manually (hold the throttle) — if the motor responds, the controller is working
  • If nothing happens, the controller may be burned out — this requires professional service
  • If the motor doesn't respond but the display lights up weakly, the battery is weakened

At this point, you need professional help. Patinep Store has its own technical service with original parts available.
